Listed public transport operator is always profit driven

SMRT did it again.
  1. Someone managed to get into the train depot.
  2. Someone managed to spray paint on the train long enough without anyone noticing
  3. Someone didn't check the train before putting it into service

To add insult into injury, this happened before 1 year ago. 1 year later and nothing has changed. Sounds familiar?

Personally, I feel that as long as a public transport company is listed, their main objective is to make profit. Security? Nah... Renovating the MRT stations to open up Xchanges is higher up in priority.

I think the government should relook into letting listed public transport operators operate our transport network. The priorities are just too different. Publicly listed company is profit driven while a nationalised or not for profit organisation is more service and security driven.

No prizes for guessing which do we prefer.
