I have just one comment on the recent article that says that there are now fewer persons living in one flat which works out to increased living space per person. Doesn't this person realised that the smaller flat is precisely the reason why some families are not having more children?
And they wonder why the birth rate cannot be increased.

It has never been the PAP's fault. It's always us, the surf citizens.
To them, we are the big problem. We don't pro-create, we put too much emphasis on careers, we want lifestyle, we want to own a car, we want to get a flat, etc. But think about it. All these issues we are currently facing can be traced back to PAP policies.
For example, emphsis on careers. The drive during the 80s and 90s was to be No 1 in everything. From education hub to financial hub to tourist hub. There were strong undercurrents to sell the professions of doctors, lawyers, engineers. All these were to line graduates up to meet to the economic demands. Every mother's son want to be some scholar.
Another example, owning a place to live. With the explosive escalation of HDB prices and long waiting queues before getting married (ROM first then ceremony later), couples had to work hard to put a downpayment for their flats. After a couple of years, who wouldn't want to reduce the pace and enjoy life more when they have a certain level of income? With kids, it's another whole set of challenges like who minds the kids while they work, extra household expenses, difficulty to travel and enjoy finer things in life, etc. Look I'm not saying there are no joys in having kids. But with the high cost of living and housing, how does anyone expect young couples to pro-create? Then we have this discrimination against pregnant mothers... gosh that's another lousy manpower policy that hardly protected expecting mothers.
Not long after we have this ex-PM Woody who sold the Singapore dream of 5Cs. Now would not every young person want to achieve a status in life when my PM is encouraging young Singaporeans to pursue their dreams of 5Cs?
Today we have this CEO of HDB trying to tell us how to live. Smaller is better, she says, because family nucleus is small.
I'm sorry, lady, I don't buy your bullsh*t. If it is so, why are we paying sky-high monies for 30 years loan for a smaller area that is only leased to us for 99 years?
Perhaps I can guess your underlying words. With smaller units, HDB can build more units in a block of flat and suck up our CPF monies.
This is not meant to be offensive. But sometimes these jokers do talk a lot of crap.
